To Be Righteous and Fear God
“Fear God, and follow not your idle fancies. Nay, rather, follow the bidding of your Lord, the Almighty, the All-Wise.” 1
“O people of the world! Follow not the promptings of the self, for it summoneth insistently to wickedness and lust; follow, rather, Him Who is the Possessor of all created things, Who biddeth you to show forth piety, and manifest the fear of God.” 2
“Assist ye the Lord of all creation with works of righteousness, and also through wisdom and utterance.” 3
“Adorn ye the temple of dominion with the ornament of justice and of the fear of God, and its head with the crown of the remembrance of your Lord, the Creator of the heavens.” 4
“Fear ye the Merciful, O peoples of the world! Commit not that which is forbidden you in Our Holy Tablet, and be not of those who rove distractedly in the wilderness of their desires.” 5
“Fear God, and be ye of the righteous!” 6
“Fear God, and be not of those who are shut out as by a veil. Burn ye away the veils with the fire of My love, and dispel ye the mists of vain imaginings by the power of this Name through which We have subdued the entire creation.” 7
“Fear ye God, O My servants, one and all.” 8
“lay not aside the fear of God and be not of the negligent.” 9
“Fear God, O men of insight, and be not of those who disbelieve in Me.” 10
“Fear God, O ye endued with understanding!” 11
“Well is it with him who is illumined with the light of courtesy and is attired with the vesture of uprightness.” 12
“…for the fear of God impelleth man to hold fast to that which is good, and shun all evil.” 13
“Be pure, O people of God, be pure; be righteous, be righteous.… Say: O people of God! That which can ensure the victory of Him Who is the Eternal Truth, His hosts and helpers on earth, have been set down in the sacred Books and Scriptures, and are as clear and manifest as the sun. These hosts are such righteous deeds, such conduct and character, as are acceptable in His sight. Whoso ariseth, in this Day, to aid Our Cause, and summoneth to his assistance the hosts of a praiseworthy character and upright conduct, the influence flowing from such an action will, most certainly, be diffused throughout the whole world.” 14
